- Introduction
Care That Feels Like Home
Choosing the right care home is one of life’s most important decisions.
At The Firs, we take time to understand each everyone’s routines, preferences and personal story before creating an individual care plan. Our approach focuses on preserving independence while providing the right level of support whenever it is needed.
Every everyone receives compassionate care in a warm, welcoming environment where they are respected, valued and encouraged to live each day with confidence.
Residential Care
The right support, while life remains your own
Moving into residential care should not mean leaving behind the routines, choices and small comforts that make someone feel like themselves.
At The Firs, each person is supported to live as independently as possible, with help available whenever it is needed. This may include assistance with personal care, medication, mobility, meals or simply the reassurance of knowing a familiar member of the team is nearby.
Everyday life is shaped around the individual. Some people enjoy sharing meals, joining activities or spending time with others, while others prefer a quieter pace. Our conservatory offers a peaceful place to sit, relax and enjoy the beautiful views across the surrounding fields, enjoying a cup of tea or spending time with family.
Our permanent team takes time to understand each person’s routines, preferences and personality, helping care feel natural rather than intrusive.
Residential care at The Firs is about making everyday life feel safer and easier, without taking away the choices that make it personal.

Dementia Care
Living with dementia can change the way someone communicates, understands their surroundings or experiences everyday life. At The Firs, our dementia care is built around patience, familiarity and a deep understanding of the individual.
Our permanent team takes time to learn each person’s life story, routines, relationships, preferences and ways of communicating. This helps us provide calm, consistent support that promotes reassurance, dignity and meaningful involvement in daily life.

An Outstanding approach to dementia care
Our commitment to improving dementia care was recognised by the CQC with the outstanding for Learning, Improvement and Innovation.
At the heart of this recognition was our structured emotional mapping model. By identifying patterns, triggers and circumstances linked to distress, our team can better anticipate when someone may need support and respond in a timely, thoughtful and individualised way.
At The Firs, dementia care begins with understanding the person behind every moment.

Palliative Care
As a person’s health changes, comfort becomes deeply personal.
At The Firs, palliative and end-of-life care is shaped around the individual. Our team takes time to understand their wishes, routines, beliefs and the small details that help them feel calm, secure and cared for.
Comfort in the way they know it
For some, comfort may mean peaceful surroundings and gentle reassurance. For others, it may be familiar music, meaningful belongings, a preferred routine or the presence of family.
Our team provides emotional reassurance and support with everyday comfort. We also work closely with GPs, district nurses and other healthcare professionals to ensure changing needs are responded to with care and compassion.
Supporting those closest to them
Families remain an important part of this time. We offer privacy, keep relatives informed and make space for questions, emotions and precious moments together.
Comfort packs are offered to provide practical support while families remain beside their loved one.
At The Firs, our focus is to preserve comfort, honour individual wishes and ensure that both the person and those closest to them feel supported throughout.

Respite Care
At The Firs, respite care offers more than a break. It gives one person thoughtful support and another the space to breathe, without either feeling forgotten.
Caring for someone you love can become part of every hour of every day. Even when it is given willingly, the responsibility can be tiring and needing time to rest does not mean you care any less.
Respite care at The Firs gives families the chance to pause, recover or attend to other responsibilities, knowing their loved one is being supported with patience, kindness and genuine attention.
For the person staying with us, it is not simply a temporary room. It is a warm welcome into everyday life at The Firs.
A stay shaped around the person
Before someone arrives, we take time to understand how they usually live — their routines, medication, mobility, dietary needs, preferences and the small things that help them feel settled.
Familiarity when change feels difficult
A temporary move can feel especially unsettling for someone living with dementia. Our team takes time to learn about their life story, communication and the routines or familiar comforts that may bring reassurance.
Because we do not use agency staff, support is provided by our own permanent team. This consistency helps trust grow and allows the person to become familiar with those caring for them.
Time to breathe, without the guilt
Families often come to respite care carrying mixed emotions. They may be exhausted but reluctant to step away.
We understand that.
Our aim is to share the responsibility for a while, so families can rest with greater peace of mind and return feeling stronger. Throughout the stay, we remain available to communicate, reassure and answer questions.
